Dear TMLabbers, Pattern, Vegetal, Memory folks, et al,
TML was founded in 2001 to study gesture and movement "from computational as well as phenomenological perspectives" ... I hope we will be able to revisit this in more sophisticated ways over the coming two years.
eg. -- Gesture tracking with fine spacetime resolution, and then sophisticated feature extraction could be a TML research interest. Especially feature extraction, assuming we can buy or borrow low level gear (pre-made sensor platforms, looking for robust rather than flaky advance from TinyOS) most apt to the domain of expression:
(1) Musician's movement (Adrian, David W, Vangelis L?);
(2) Dancers' movement (with Michael Montanaro, Lisa Wymore, Natasha Myers ?);
(3) Inhabitants' movement (Patrick, Harry, David Morris, Helga W, Linnaea T ?).
This is just a place-holder for discussion in our first TML campfires in September.
Casually noted but not casually thought,
Xin Wei
PS. Helga Wild and Linnaea Tillet may visit TML circa October 21 ... to discuss a workshop on (environmental) psychology and architecture later in the year. Please let me know directly if you'd be interested in meeting or accompanying these remarkable friends while they're in town :)
